Market Overview (Tomorrow)

Market Fundamentals

Forecast load peaks at 138.2 GW in HE18, with demand remaining elevated through HE19-20. Weather supports a strong cooling load profile, especially across the Mid-Atlantic and South: around the peak window, Richmond is near 88-91°F, Philadelphia near 88-90°F, Washington DC near 87°F, and Newark near 85°F. Western and northern PJM are more moderate, with Columbus and Pittsburgh in the upper-70s and Chicago in the low-70s, which should limit some broader RTO upside.

Net load is highest in HE19 at 129.5 GW as solar output falls sharply into the evening and wind remains light. Wind is forecast mostly near 0.9-1.5 GW during the late-day peak period, while solar drops from about 8.2 GW in HE18 to 5.3 GW in HE19 and 2.2 GW in HE20. DA LMPs reflect the tighter evening setup, rising from $146.92/MWh in HE18 to $175.34/MWh in HE19 and $174.15/MWh in HE20 before easing as load falls.

There are no significant emergency procedures to report for tomorrow.

Outages

Generation outages are forecast steady at 24.0 GW, including 13.7 GW forced outages and 10.4 GW maintenance outages. For August, this is a high outage level for summer peak conditions, when most capacity is expected to be available. Given the 138.2 GW forecast load peak and elevated net load into HE19-20, the outage level is operationally meaningful and reduces supply flexibility during the hottest and tightest hours.
