Insights
Warm coastal weather supported the observed ERCOT load peak, with Houston and Corpus Christi in the low-to-mid 80s around midday while San Antonio, Austin, and Dallas held in the mid-to-upper 70s and Midland stayed much cooler in the mid-60s. Widespread cloud cover and precipitation across North and Central Texas helped moderate demand, with observed load peaking at 60.3 GW in HE13 through the available real-time data, below the full-day forecast peak of 62.3 GW in HE15.
Real-time prices at HB_BUSAVG were firmer than day-ahead through HE13, averaging $49.20/MWh versus $37.00/MWh day-ahead, for an average DART of -$12.20/MWh. The key real-time price driver was renewable underperformance, especially solar output running materially below forecast from HE9-13 while wind also missed forecast for most of the morning.
