Market Overview

Insights

•

Around the actual load peak in HE16, weather forecasts showed Houston near 87°F and Corpus Christi near 83°F, supporting coastal cooling demand, while Dallas, Austin, and San Antonio held in the mid- to upper-70s with widespread cloud cover and precipitation that moderated broader ERCOT demand. ERCOT load peaked at 66.6 GW in HE16, about 1.6 GW above forecast, before easing into the evening.

•

Real-time prices at HB_BUSAVG generally cleared above day-ahead through most of the day, especially HE1-17, as actual wind generation underperformed forecast and actual load exceeded forecast from the afternoon forward. Prices softened versus DA during HE18-23 as the day-ahead market had anticipated tighter evening net-load conditions than ultimately materialized.
